Some people call it chicken coops others call it chicken houses and in some parts of the world it’s call chicken sheds. It’s just a name.

Anyway, the aim of this site is to make people aware that they too can raise chickens cleanly and cheaply. My personal reason for promoting chicken coops are many on vary in different levels.

Here are some of the reasons why I have a chicken coop:

  1. To have the freedom to choose what type of eggs I eat.
  2. I care for the welfare of animals and think that even if we can’t all be vegetarians we can at-least offer these animals a safe place to exist in a humane way.
  3. No hormones in your food. Chickens are in captivity are raised in bad conditions. It is a prison from hell for them and they are basically fed bad food. Profit hungry businesses use droppings and dead birds which are reprocessed for food for the live chickens in the cages. For the businessman nothing is wasted. You should really know where and how your food is grown and prepared.
  4. The eggs offered from a backyard chicken coop are tonnes better than the purchased versions in supermarkets.  You can tell this by the color of the yolk. The light yellow yolks are from chickens which are fed poorly.  Backyard chickens if fed correctly they will lay eggs that are full of nutritious minerals and vitamins.
  5. You can give some of the eggs to neighbors, friends and relatives in exchange for other things.

There’s obviously other reasons why you should have your own backyard chicken coop or hen house.

I am more of a vegetarian and raise chickens for their eggs only. I could never slaughter my chickens for food. I give them a burial when they pass out.

Eggs are great for a growing family they sustain you and give you daily energy and nutrients.  Depending  on how you like your eggs you should eat eggs every other day.
