Manufacturers of Solar PV Solar City, Trina Solar, SolarUS,SES21, SolarTrek, Schletter and Bosch Solar Energy have all joined with Habitat for Humanity for a housing project in Dallas. The cited companies will give free PV systems for the homes and a reported number of 13 families will benefit from the free solar PV systems to be installed on their rooftops. This is a new milestone for the organization as it strives to continue in providing simple, decent and affordable housing for the people in need.
Habitat for Humanity was started by the farmer and biblical scholar Clarence Jordan and other people with goals of promoting racial reconciliation. It was created in Koinonia Farm in the US around 1942. The Fuller couple, Milliard and Linda, visited Koinonia in 1965 because they want to begin renewed lives as Christians centering on service. Fuller and Jordan then developed the concept of “partnership housing”. As per the Habitat for Humanity’s official site, the goal of the organization is “centered on those in need of adequate shelter working side by side with volunteers to build simple, decent houses”. To keep the project moving, they have a revolving fund called “The Fund for Humanity”. The funds are from new home owners who paid for their house with no interest as provided by supporters of the organization and numerous fund-raising movements. The revolving fund would be used to support upcoming projects of the organization.
In the year 1973, the Fullers borrowed the idea of The Fund for Humanity so more deserving families can be given decent homes. In the year 1976, the Habitat for Humanity International was set up. The newest statistics (as of September 2011) indicated that the organization has built 500,000 homes and provided decent homes for more than 2.5 millions individuals.
An ongoing project of the foundation is the provision of eco-friendly homes for families in the Dallas area. As written above, solar panels will be given by solar panel manufacturers and not only that as the houses will be built with a solar hot water system. The Vice President of Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA, Tom Kimbis, stated that the solar pv systems that will be set up in all of the houses can help the families save a huge amount every year. This will also demonstrate that solar power is feasible in the US.
The new homeowners are also assured by Habitat for Humanity that they are well-equipped to help keep the energy-efficient and eco-friendly homes installed with solar panels. The homeowners must be commit to 400 hours of community service with the organization in return as well as attending education programs to learn about how to be a good homeowner and neighbor.
Dave Garcia, like many others, is concerned about the Environment and how Solar Panel can help to preserved its beauty. Read more updates about “Solar PV” here.
